July Events in Asakusa and Ueno

Iriya Asagao Ichi

Asagao means Morning Glory. Iriya Asagao Ichi is held at and around Iriya Kishimojin Temple. This event is held on 6, 7 and 8 July every year. This year, the street (Kototoi Dori) will be closed from 17:00 to 21:30 on these days.

Hozuki Ichi

Hozuki means Ground Cherry. Hozuki Ichi is held on July 9 and 10 at Sensoji temple. If you come to Sensoji on July 10th, it has a same meaning that you come to Sensoji to pray for 46,000 days.On this week, you can buy a charm to avoid natural disasters especially lightning.

Ueno Natsumatsuri

This event is held from July 11 through August 9 around Shinobazu Pond in Ueno. This season, you will see the lotus blossoms on the pond in the morning.
There will be a lot of event such as a flower market, an antique market, music and Rakugo around the pond. A parade of traditional dance will be held on July 18 on Ueno Chuo Street.
