Are Taking Taxis Affordable in Japan?

Need to Get Somewhere Quick in Japan?

In the Tokyo city area, taxis are everywhere. If you are on a main road it would be rare if you couldn't catch one in 5 minutes. Taxis are easy to find and a quick way to get around. The metro and bus system will also take you pretty much anywhere but will usually be more time consuming since buses only come at certain times and you need to go underground for the metro. Taxi prices start at 710 yen for the first two km. Then on, the system gets slightly complicated. For every 288m, the price rises by 90 yen. This, though, is also dependent on time. For a certain amount of time, the price also rises. Riding the highway will also cost you extra toll fees. Basically, a taxi is a good option if you are travelling a short distance in Tokyo. The longer you go, the more the cost of riding a taxi will be in comparison to other modes of transportation.
