Ikoma Plateau Where One Million Cosmos Bloom

Kobayashi City in Miyazaki Prefecture is home to Ikoma Platea, where you can enjoy beautiful flowers that seem to cover fields that seem never-ending. The park is open from Spring to Fall each year. I visited this area during October where I could enjoy the celebration of one million cosmos flowers, that also coincided with a number of night-time festivals, couples, families and tourists traveled from all over to enjoy a night of food music surrounded by pastel colors.

Access to the park is easy if you are driving, the roads system is very easy to navigate and to familiarize yourself if you are spending a few days here. The landmarks make it easy to tell you which direction you need to head towards. There is also public transportation, but probably only a few times a day.

There is a few shops to buy food at, you can also take food into the park to enjoy a picnic. There is plenty of grassed areas to sit and soak up the natural atmosphere.

As you walk around the park during the night, there are pockets of areas that have been lit with candles, Japanese washi lanterns and large domes. I was here on a Saturday evening and couples could be seen everywhere, the air was not only filled with the aroma of the flowers but warm hearts of love and happiness. I want to return in the future with a group of family and friends to take full advantage of this great event.
