Hydrangea's in Japan - Ajisai
Japan is a country of multiple seasons and for every season there are a different set of flowers that are blooming. At this very time of year, the Hydrangea's are blooming. In Japanese, hydrangea's are called Ajisai. You can go to virtually any park, temple or residential neighborhood and find hydrangea's blooming. They usually come in beautiful shades of blue, purple, lavender, pink and white. One interesting point about hydrangea's is that the color of the flower is based on the pH or acidity of the soil. They can be different colors from one year to the next based on the pH. Also, if there is aluminum present in the soil, they will tend to become more blue. For pink colors, there must not be any aluminum in the soil.
