Hama Rikyu Gardens - a beautiful park in Central Tokyo
A short walk from JR Shimbashi station (12 minutes) or either the Shiodome or Tsukiji Ichiba stations on the Toei Oedo line (7 minutes from either station), is one of the most beautiful and well kept parks in Tokyo. This park was created for the powerful Daimyo ruling class (feudal lords) during the Edo period (1603 - 1868). Of course, the large business offices in the background were not there during the Edo period. However, the contrast between old Japan and new Japan is something that must be seen and experienced in person. The water in the ponds are from tidal pools which are fed from Tokyo Bay, so it rises and falls with the tide. A beautiful park to stroll through after your visit to the Tsukiji Fish Market.
