Lavender fields of Farm Tomita/Hokkaido
In Hokkaido, Furano's lavender fields attract large numbers of visitors to the region every summer when the plants are in full bloom. Lavenders usually start blooming in late June and reaches its peak from around mid July to early August.
I had always wanted to visit Furano since I watched the popular TV drama called "Kitano Kunikara ("From the north country"). It is a very popular TV drama produced by Fuji TV featuring two little kids (Jun and Hotaru) growing up with a shy and stubborn Daddy in Furano, Hokkaido. Probably a majority of Japanese can recall the drama when they hear their opening song. Around that time, we saw many people taking off Mr. Kunie Tanaka, a actor who played a part of their Daddy "Goro-san" in the drama.

One of the must-visit place for Lavendar is Farm Tomita. We visited there off-season(last October), however their rainbow field of flowers was stunning. It was a huge farm with a traditional lavender garden and other fields of colouful flowers. It was quite a fun and impressive to walk around their garden.
Many lavender related products are sold and there are a lot of stuff to eat such as Lavendar ice cream, lavender soda, Hokkaido vegetable curry, etc.
Interestingly, the lavender fields of Farm Tomita were first featured on the calendar of JR throughout Japan and it turned out to be a trigger to bring many tourists from all over the world. They have an explanation board saying the farm produces original lavender essential oil and they won the first prize at the "Lavender Perfume Fair" in France. So we bought a bottle of their Lavendar oil and they actually smelled very nice and long.
I just realized they have Certificate of Excellence 2014 in TripAdvisor. Summer is coming up, the best season to visit them!
