Book your tickets for the May Sumo Grand Tournament!

The May Sumo Grand Tournament is soon upon us! Between Sunday May 11th and Sunday May 25th the sumo wrestlers of Japan will be fighting it out at Ryōgoku Kokugikan. 15 days of matches, starting with the beating of drums at 08:00 each morning and ending at 18:00 with a bow dance ceremony.

Head over to the arena to secure your tickets now. I was there myself last week, and all the weekend seats have already been reserved. So make sure to book your seat soon to one of the remaining days if you want to experience sumo. Both tickets for traditional Japanese box seats for 2-6 people, as well as Western chair seats can be purchased. One ticket lasts for all matches during one day, and can be used for re-entry once.

Make sure to check out the surroundings when in the area. Many of the restaurants around Ryōgoku station serve Chanko-nabe - a traditional sumo stew consisting of large quantities of protein sources, usually chicken, fish, vegetables and sometimes beef. A daily part of the sumos health-gaining diet, especially when eaten in large amounts. Enjoy!
