Azalea: Tsutsuji - Spring Flowers in Japan
Suddenly a lot of the green turns white, pink, and red
Sakura is famous in the spring, but after the cherry blossom time in Japan another flower takes over. In April azaleas colour Tokyo with their bright flowers.
When I read Chiara's post "Local Secret: YaNeSen" here I realised that she was describing places that I had just visited. "The stroll from Yanaka to Nezu is pleasantly quiet, eventually finishing off with a visit to Nezu Shrine".
Japanese Azalea Festival: Tsutsuji Matsuri
Nezu Shrine is one of the most famous places to visit in Tokyo in the spring when the Japanese azaleas are in bloom. The shrine has its own garden with a hill filled with hundreds of azalea bushes of different varieties. The festival takes place April 5 - May 6, 2014.
A Walk to Nezu Shrine
Nezu Shrine is a quiet oasis in a quiet old area of Tokyo. Follow the signs from Nezu station on the Chiyoda line to the shrine. When you visit, take some time to also explore the YaNeSen area. If you want to take a longer walk, go to Nezu from Nippori or Ueno.
