If you see giant carp streamers flying over homes or in the fields at this time of the year it isn't because the home owner is bragging about the size of the fish he or she just caught.
It's the celebration of Children's Day, which officially falls on May 5, during Golden Week.
The village of Kanna, in Saitama Prefecture, has a huge display of carp streamers. The hillside has hundreds of carp strung on ropes running up the hillside. It is said they have 800 carp streamers displayed.
The holiday was originally just for boys, but that is now changed and it's meant to be a celebration day for all children. Families typically display one streamer for each child.
