Koyo in Inokashira Koen
More than just cherry blossoms
Inokashira Koen, a brief walk away from Kichijouji station on the Inokashira line, is mainly famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms, which reflect on the lake, and for the 'cursed' swan boats. Supposedly, if you ride in a swan boat with your significant other, you will break up!
However, the park is perhaps even more stunning in autumn, with long trails of bright red momiji and golden ginko trees.
Kichijouji is slightly colder than the rest of Tokyo, so the leaves in Inokashira Koen change colour earlier than their more centrally located cousins.
On autumn weekends it is a popular spot for a stroll, as the park comes alive with performers and artists selling their creations, not to mention some of the best dressed dogs in Tokyo.
There is a little coffee stand hidden amongst the trees. I recommend getting a latte (or cup of vin brule') and meandering slowly throughout the various areas on the park.
If you want to extend you walk, there is a trail that will take you all the way to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka.
