Beat the Japanese Heat with "Tofu Somen"
My latest food fixation has been tofu somen, which can be found at most convenience stores and shopping marts for around 200 yen. They come in two basic flavours: tsuyu (light soy-based sauce) and goma-dare (sesame sauce).
To eat, all you have to do is drain the pre-cooked noodle package, which comes with easy-to-understand directions, pour in a bowl (or you can eat it straight from the package), pour the sauce and add the strips of nori (seaweed) and eat!
If you feel up to it, you can cut up meat and vegetables and add it to the mix.
What makes tofu somen so great is:
1. It's cheap!
2. One package is under 100 kcals - perfect for those dieting!
3. It's easy to eat, light on digestion, but filling.
4. Eaten cold, they're a great way to beat the heat!
5. They make either a fantastic quick snack or small meal!
Try them, I think you'll like them!
