KOUMEN - Best Egg Tarts in Yokohama Chinatown

Egg tarts are my absolute favorite dim sum items, but it's very hard to find them in bakeries in Japan unless I make a trip to Yokohama Chinatown. The egg custard tart (commonly romanized as daan taat) is a kind of custard tart pastry found in Portugal, England, Hong Kong, and various Asian countries. An outer pastry crust is filled with delicious egg custard.

The dim sum shop "Koumen" in Yokohama Chinatown offers one of the best egg tarts. The shop has a long histry of almost 60 years in Yokohama. If you are not sure where to get good-tasting ones, this is the shop you should stop by early during the day. Because they will be sold quickly and usually their shelves are empty at late evening. Komen's egg tarts are so facinatingly elegant that it always reminds me of the Roman Goddess of the moon, Diana.

As they are a dim sum shop, you should try their bun with sweet roast pork. I love it as one of my best light snack options having a high quality, which slightly surpasses English afternoon tea!
