WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT JAPAN?

When is the best time of year to visit Japan?

A common question we hear from travelers is, “If you could visit Japan at any time of year, when would you go?”

One of the best things about Japan is that it’s truly worth visiting at any time of year! Every season has its highlights, and Japanese culture is remarkable in its appreciation of the changing of the seasons.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean that YOU personally would enjoy Japan at any time of the year, so it’s smart to take the seasons into account when planning your trip to Japan.

So here are some of our favorite reasons to visit Japan during each magical season:

The Seasons In Japan

WINTER IN JAPAN

Winter in Japan lasts from about December to mid-March, depending on the location. Winters are cold, with temperatures ranging from approximately 30 to 45 °F.

SPRING IN JAPAN

Spring in Japan lasts from about mid-March to May. The weather in spring is fickle, with temperatures ranging from approximately 40 to 65 °F. On some days you may still want your winter coat, while on other days you may not even need a sweater.

* Sakura (Cherry Blossoms)

SUMMER IN JAPAN

Summer in Japan lasts from about June to mid-September. Summers are hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from approximately 70 to 90 °F. However, summer is also one of the most exciting times to visit Japan!

* So many matsuri (festivals)
* Hanabi Taikai (fireworks shows)

FALL/AUTUMN IN JAPAN

Fall in Japan lasts from about mid-September to November. Autumns are widely considered to be the most pleasant time (weather-wise) to visit Japan, with temperatures ranging from approximately 50 to 70 °F.

* Extremely pleasant temperatures
