Strawberries in winter of course!
I have always wondered why you find strawberries in winter only in Japan!
Of course, you do need them to decorate your whipped cream Christmas cake. It is a must but it should not be the only reason!
In Belgium, where I come from, strawberries are a summer time delicacy. You start picking them end of May, until the end of August.
But in Japan, you find the first strawberries in December and until April latest. I can understand that strawberries are grown in greenhouses, lovingly pampered to become red, and huge, and gloriously shaped just for the winter.
But why is it impossible to find them in summer?
